What to Do With Those Pesky Business Challenges

January 20th, 2010

What’s challenging you in your business and in your marketing right now?

For some, it’s not enough clients or income. For some, it’s feeling overwhelmed by all the “to dos.” For some, it’s seeing the success of others and judging your own results as not good enough.

In my opinion, having your own business is the accelerated path to personal growth!

Whatever internal issues we’ve got going on – they show up as “obstacles” in our business. For example, a belief that money is scarce holds me back from investing in the very thing that will allow money to flow into my business. Or the idea that I’m “not good enough” prevents me from reaching out to connect with someone who could provide invaluable support.

While it may be a bitter pill to swallow at times, the circumstances of your life (and that includes your business) are provided for the evolution of your own spirit and purpose.

In his book, Spiritual Liberation, Michael Beckwith writes that conditions arise and hard times come so that we may grow, not in spite of them, but through them.

He calls challenges our “spiritual liberators.” I love that reframe.

Challenges happen to all of us (yes, even Oprah and Tony Robbins). The good news is that when an unwelcome situation comes up, just remember to ask:

“What’s the meaning of this ‘mess’ I’m in?
What am I holding onto that no longer serves my life purpose?
Where can I put my focus that will better support me?”

The barriers to success are always internal. It only looks like they’re coming from outside us. But if you persist in believing they’re happening “to” you, not through you, you’ll miss the learning - and the way out.

If you’re waiting to invest with a mentor or in a continued learning course until you “get a couple more clients,” take a look at the underlying money belief that’s driving that decision. Is it worth holding on to?

If you’re spinning your wheels in a chaos of overwhelm, jumping from task to task without being productive, check to see what “payoff” the muddle may be providing you.

If you’re letting self doubt keep you playing small, ask yourself where you can put your attention instead that would support your bigger vision.

The Challenges In Your Business Are Evidence You’re On the Path

When you’re truly embracing your divine purpose and stepping into your greatness through your business, challenges will come up. But instead of seeing them as a “sign” that you should pull back, understand that it’s the Universe asking you to expand and grow.

The joy, abundance and creativity you desire are within you already, waiting for you to give them expression. And just as the butterfly must labor to shed its cocoon, our own growth requires us to make an effort.

It’s time to spread your beautiful wings, don’t you think?
