Where Does Your Marketing Future Lie?
July 2nd, 2009

Learning is the bread and butter of any entrepreneur who intends to grow a business beyond the “hobby” stage.
Given what I see happening in the world of online information marketing, learning and teaching are the currency of the future. That’s where the real leverage/growth in today’s society (and economy) lies.
Given that, the people who can learn and teach most skillfully will be the people who achieve the greatest success.
So, a word of caution – There are two key obstacles to learning. . .
1) “I already knew that.”
2) “I disagree.”
Those reactions are often the default response we humans have. The brain is wired to sort and catagorize incoming information. When we hear something, we immediately compare it to what we already have stored in our head.
The danger is if we let that automatic classification stand as our final response. Then the new learning (from the “old” information) is lost.
Every time you say “I already knew that,” you’re blocking yourself from learning. Every time you say “I disagree,” you’re blocking yourself from learning.
Much more useful than jumping to classify information into the “already know it” or “don’t agree with it” categories is to ask: “Hmmm, what’s useful to me in this?”
In other words, stay open to learnings and change. Otherwise you’ll stop moving forward.
